A pool that became “the best babysitter” for a family of six

Ebony’s family in Geelong wanted a pool their four kids would actually live in — a place where cousins, nieces, nephews and friends could all pile in through summer.

The site was flat, which made it ideal for a traditional inground installation. We recommended the Compass X-Trainer 7.2 — long enough for genuine swimming, but sized to sit comfortably in a family backyard with room to move around it.

For colour, Ebony chose Quartz Bi-luminite™. The large reflective chips in the surface create a 3D effect in the water that shifts and sparkles with the light — one of the reasons this pool photographs so beautifully.

To finish it off, we added a water wall feature, bringing a note of tranquillity to the space — the perfect mix of leisure, relaxation and lifestyle. And like almost every pool we build, it runs on Compass’s Vantage self-cleaning system, so Ebony’s family spend their time swimming, not scrubbing.

Years on, it’s still the heart of their backyard — and in Ebony’s own words, “just like a big babysitter.”
